geez, there's so much history in this lovely city... like the s.s. jeremiah o'brien, for example. currently docked at pier 32, it's the only operational survivor of the 6,000 ship armada that stormed normandy on d-day... she even went back for a "nostalgic journey" to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the invasion... ya know i'm not usually into war nostalgia, but this ship is pretty cool. they preserved it the way it was back in 1946... the war slogan signs and the engine room (creepy!) were my favorite parts...
this is actually right by red's java house
(see the first week of snaps...)
i like the old signs in case ya can't read them: "Loose Lips Might Sink Ships"; and "Your Skill and Devotion will win the war" |
the engine room was really cool...
no one else was down there...
ya gotta climb down these really steep ladders...
kinda damp... kinda cold...
she's usually parked either here near the bay bridge,
or at fort mason on the other side of the city...
"thanks!" to the man in the booth.
i was short $2 for admission so he kicked in to cover the balance...
(i, of course, mailed it back to him the next day...)
just poor planning on my part...
