food, nyc, life is good...

as you regulars know (for newcomers, check out the archive) i lived in new york for about a year in '97-'98. i miss it and visit whenever i can. this month you get snaps from my december visit (yeah, i know, not exactly up to date but these never got posted). they're of tom's restaurant on washington ave in brooklyn (near the Brooklyn museum... and my sister's place). it's a great diner/luncheonette... run by super friendly "gus" (he reached over the banister, picked up my baby, kissed him all over the face and handed him back! quite a shock for us californian's ... i loved it). he later came back with a shinny sacagawea gold coin for his "college fund". super sweet. breakfast was great. someone walked around offering orange slices at one point and cookies later. it was freezing out so they even served up hot coffee while you waited. i wish there was somewhere like this in s.f.
