another week goes by in the city...
last week it was booze, now on to food...

this week, i visited the St. Francis Fountain (and Candy Store). the fountain was established in 1918 at the corner of 24th and york streets, in the heart of the mission district. family owned and run (third generation now), it was last remodeled in 1949, which gives it an authentic feel that the new "deco/retro/diner type" places will never be able to reproduce.

for those of you who want a boring but wider establishing shot,

the kitchy signs are authentic...
but the prices, of course, have been updated

daily specials feature hot entrees...
and allow you to plan ahead!

i'm a sucker for a no frills grilled cheese...
american cheese and white bread... basics at their best...

hard to resist a hot fudge sundae...
i got mine with chocolate chip and coffee ice cream...
and yes, i ate the whole thing!
