san francisco clubs from the past...

this week i thought i'd bring you a little of the flashy broadway strip in north beach... plenty of neon (which i love to shoot) and plenty of history... but walking up and down the two blocks of broadway between columbus and montgomery it struck me that most of the places i remember "from way back when" (playing pool at the matador, scouting a band for a high school dance at the chi chi club...) were closed. still standing, but boarded up. so that's what you get. some history. if you have stories to tell about any of the clubs below, i invite you to share them with me... maybe next week we could round out this installation with a few personal stories....
