i like beer too...

and this week i'm giving you a peek at a local san francisco brewery, the anchor brewing company. nestled in a semi-industrial-residential part of our city, it's a small brewery devoted to it's craft. anchor started brewing in 1896 and for years their steam beer was only available locally. in 1965 the company was rescued from bankruptcy and a san francisco tradition was saved. in 1971 they started bottling their beer and they now claim to have a little beer in a lot of places, but not a lot of beer anywhere... nice motto for a small city brewery. based on my experience, their most popular local brews are anchor steam, anchor porter, and liberty ale. they also produce special brews like the potrero commons ale brewed in 1990 to support a local city park project... a far cry from the huge budweiser factory you see off the freeway heading east...
