another trip south of the city...

this week, we visit demarco's 23 club in historic brisbane, just south of san francisco... the club opened in 1941 and used to play host to all-time favorite performers like johnny cash and patsy cline. they used to have a motto, "music starts at 9:00, fighting at 10:00", but it wasn't like that this week... the club is experiencing the impact of the swing revival though... nugget, demarco's daughter, said it reminds her of the dance revival in the early 80's around the john travolta/urban cowboy craze... just a little more history in the making...

(i had some technical difficulty (part of my camera shattered into little pieces) which unfortunately prevented me from bringing you images of the various taxidermy lining the walls... and a shot of the "world record" b-b-q in 1947... sorry!...)

see those white specs?
mid-august and it was pouring rain!...

the derailers from texas...
(i actually liked them better when i saw them last year...)

a young johnny cash on the "wall of fame"...

high fashion and cheap beer...

there's even a diner attached...
(it was closed so i wasn't able to sample the grilled cheese...)
