what beat generation?...

this week you get to visit a historic landmark in north beach: city lights bookstore which opened in june of 1953. city lights is one of the few remaining landmarks of the "beat era" in san francisco which centered around novelist jack kerouac, poet allen ginsberg, and poet-publisher lawrence ferlinghetti (owner of city lights). located on columbus at the corner of kerouac alley (probably still listed as adler on most maps) it's across the street from tosca and vesuvio's.
